I love to see people succeed in reaching their goals and dreams or to fulfil their calling and reach their potential. We all have a passion or purpose, mine is to support people when things are tuff, to encourage them when the plateau seems endless, to cheer them on when victory is in sight, to help them unravel a tangled issue, or to find the missing element.
In my journey as an educator and leader, a volunteer and co-founder of a cross-cultural outreach ministry, I understand and have compassion for people in helping professions and ministry. I understand the pressure and endless demands on your time and resources, the ceaseless needs of those you serve. I know that relationship proceed processes, and success often stands on the shoulders of strong and respectful relationships - but that the demands and the relational work we do, come with a big emotional cost for us.
Insights from my own experience and the research work I did for my MA research on burnout, have given me intimate understanding of the passion that calls individuals to a helping profession or ministry, and the hidden risks we face. Many researchers and organisations acknowledge professional supervision as an important part of self-care and accountability for people in the helping professions and ministry.
I am a lifelong learner and belief we learn and grow formally and informally throughout our lives as we learn and develop skills, and as we experience the ups and downs of life. John Dewey accurately observed and says “We do not learn from experience. We learn from reflecting on experience.”
For professionals it is important to stop and reflect, and space2reflect, provides intentional time and space to recalibrate, and refresh – to ensure the sustainability and longevity in your vocation, because we value our clients, our work and ourselves.
